Diabetes Nutrition

Diabetes Dietitian in Chennai

Food has a direct effect on blood sugar, but "avoid sugar" is not a plan. We help you understand what, how much and when to eat, using everyday South Indian meals.

Consultations are available at our Perumbakkam clinic and online. Nutrition support works alongside - never instead of - the treatment your doctor has prescribed.

Who This Is For

  • Adults recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes who are unsure what to eat
  • People with prediabetes who want to make changes early
  • People with long-standing diabetes whose readings are hard to keep steady
  • Family members who cook for someone with diabetes
  • People managing diabetes together with high blood pressure, cholesterol or weight concerns

Common Concerns We Help With

  • High fasting or after-meal readings
  • Confusion about rice, millets, fruit and sweets
  • Feeling hungry or tired on a restricted diet
  • Eating during festivals, functions and travel
  • Meal timing around medicines and work shifts
  • Understanding food labels and "diabetic-friendly" products

What Your Consultation Includes

  • A review of your current meals, routine, medicines (as prescribed by your doctor) and recent reports such as HbA1c and fasting sugar
  • Carbohydrate awareness and portion guidance using familiar foods
  • Meal plans that spread carbohydrates sensibly across the day
  • Practical swaps for breakfast, snacks and dinner
  • Follow-ups to review your readings and adjust the plan
  • Personalized exercise and yoga guidance as part of your diet chart - planned from your assessment, health condition and your doctor's advice, at no extra cost

Diabetes Nutrition: FAQs

Can diet alone manage my diabetes?

Nutrition is a core part of diabetes care, but decisions about medicines are always made by your doctor. We work alongside your treatment, not instead of it.

Do I have to stop eating rice completely?

Not always. We look at portion size, what you pair rice with, and the rest of your day's meals.

Are millets always better?

Millets can be a helpful option, but portion and preparation still matter. We will show you how to include them sensibly.

Which reports should I bring?

Recent HbA1c, fasting and post-meal blood sugar, lipid profile and anything else your doctor has asked for. Bring what you have - it's fine if some are missing.

Can I eat fruit?

Most people with diabetes can include fruit in suitable portions. Your plan will say which, how much and when.

Do I have to pay separately for exercise or yoga?

No. Exercise and yoga guidance is part of your diet chart, not a separate service. It is planned from your assessment - your health condition, fitness, age and your doctor's advice - and comes at no extra cost.
